What is occupational therapy?
Occupational Therapy helps people do the everyday activities they need and love, so they can live more independently and fully.

Meet Deirdre
Hello, I qualified as an OT in 2009 and have since worked across a wide range of healthcare settings including the community, rehabilitation units, palliative care services and residential settings.
I work with adults aged 18 and over, with physical or cognitive difficulties. Most recently I worked as a clinical specialist OT in palliative care services. I love working with people, finding out what is important to them and supporting them to achieve their wishes.

Home environment assessment
View details Hide details
This assessment in your home would look at how well your living environment supports your daily functioning and aims to optimise independence and safety.
These assessments are especially valuable for older adults, individuals with disabilities or those recovering from illness or injury.
Following the assessment, a report is provided outlining recommendations which may include home modifications, adaptive equipment or changes to improve your quality of life and enhance safety. This process is also followed if you are applying for council grants or social housing.
Functional assessment
View details Hide details
If you are recovering from an injury or illness, experiencing memory difficulties or falling in your home, this assessment involves looking at your physical and/or cognitive function.
The aim is to identify problem areas and work with you to prevent and manage these within your everyday life. It may also be helpful for a family member or carer to learn how to support you as best they can.
For occupational therapists
Clinical supervision
Clinical supervision in occupational therapy is a collaborative process between a supervisor and a supervisee that ensures the safe and effective delivery of services while fostering professional competence and development.
Deirdre has many years’ experience providing clinical supervision to occupational therapists, from senior grade to undergraduate students. Her supervision style is well organised, thorough and time-efficient.
Ask about supervision“You always provided such a safe, supportive and non-judgemental space where I could openly discuss difficult situations, particularly around professional boundaries, scope of practice and my responsibilities as an OT. You helped me work through things clearly and ethically, while also building my confidence in my own clinical reasoning and judgement. I always came away from our supervision sessions feeling much clearer, reassured and more confident in myself as a clinician.
I would wholeheartedly recommend you to any OT looking for a knowledgeable, compassionate and genuinely supportive supervisor.”
